The South Davidson Wildcat runners competed last week at the conference meet held in Thomasville. Will Mitchell took home several top honors including first place in the 800, and 1600m runs with respective times of 2:08.5 and 5:01. Neils Okuniek finished the 800m and the 1600m in third place with times of 2:12.2 and 5:13. The men’s 4x800 relay team was conference champions with a time of 9:08, and the 4x200 relay team made all conference with a second place finish.
Both relay teams consisted of Niels Okuniek, Edgar Espinoza, Juan Zepeda, Drew Hill, and Will Mitchell. These individuals also qualified for regionals to be held this Saturday, May 10 in Albemarle. Will Mitchell will be competing in the 400, 800 and 1600 and Niels will be competing in the 800m as well.
Other Wildcat men competing included Drew Hill in the 3200m finishing with a time of 13:09, and Cody Jones and Cody Decamp in the 110 and 300m hurdles with respective times of 19:62, 55:06, and 21:32, 46:08.
The women’s 4x800 relay team finished in 4th place with a time of 15:34. The 4x400m relay team finished with a time of 5:33. In the 100m hurdles Charlene Walker finished in sixth place with a time of 20:68. She also took sixth in the 300m hurdles with a time of 57.53. In the 3200m run she finished fourth with a time of 16:07. Megan Hall also ran the 100m hurdles with a time of 22:30 and Sarah Smithling ran the 1600m with a time of 7:04 to earn fourth place.
Competing at the regional tournament this weekend for the Lady Wildcats are Charlene Walker in the 3200m run and the 4x800 and the 4x400 teams have also qualified. These teams consist of Megan Hall, Danielle Kennedy, Sarah Smithling, Charlene Walker and Caroline Harrison.
Both the men and women’s team finished in sixth place in the conference tournament.
